Act I The Sunshine

Morning wakes the gentle town,
Golden light comes softly down.
Stalls appear, the fair takes flight,
All is warm and full of light.

But sudden clouds roll dark and wide,
The sun is lost, the shadows glide.
The wind grows loud, the sky turns gray—
The fair grows still, the joy drifts away.

Twinklebugs flash, they spin and gleam,
Chasing night with hopeful beam.
A crying girl steps through the rain,
Her quiet tears fall with the pain.

Then tender rays break through the sky,
Soft and kind, they pass her by.
The storm lets go, the clouds depart,
And sunshine fills each dancing heart.

The fair returns with song and cheer—
For light and joy are always near.

Act II La Bayadere Suite “Kingdom of Shades”

Grieving the loss of Nikia, Solor wanders into the high mountains, where he experiences a dreamlike vision. Before him appears the spirit of Nikia along with the shades of departed bayadères. One by one, the shades slowly descend the mountain in a calm, flowing procession, creating a sense of a serene and timeless world beyond earthly life.

In this vision, Solor is reunited with Nikia. Their dance expresses tenderness, sorrow, and the memory of a love that could not be fulfilled. Although they are together in this dream world, their reunion is fleeting, emphasizing the distance between the world of the living and the world of the shades.
