3. Student Expectations & Conduct
At Emerald Ballet Academy, we foster an environment built on respect, responsibility, and discipline. Students are expected to uphold these values in their interactions with faculty, staff, peers, and parents, both in and outside the studio. Our policies ensure a safe, supportive, and professional atmosphere where dancers can thrive. Below, you’ll find guidelines on conduct, social media use, and photography, all designed to maintain a positive and productive experience for everyone.
-
Level advancement is thoughtfully determined by our professional instructors with dancer safety, age, and readiness in mind. Younger levels progress primarily by age, while older levels require demonstrated technical ability and physical preparedness—especially for pointe work. Advancement is not guaranteed annually and may differ from peers. All placement decisions are final and made to support each dancer’s long-term growth and injury-free development.
-
EBA students are expected to maintain respect, responsibility, and discipline, treating staff, faculty, peers, and parents with kindness. Personal cleanliness at the studio is also required. Students should keep belongings secured, report suspicious activity, and limit time in the dressing room to changing or storing items.
EBA strictly prohibits harassment, intimidation, discrimination, or offensive behavior at the studio, theatre, or competition venues. Reported incidents will be investigated, and if misconduct is confirmed, disciplinary action—such as probation, fines, suspension, or dismissal—will be determined by the Artistic Director.
Prohibited Behaviors:
Physical intimidation or harm
Verbal harassment
Discriminatory speech or actions
Theft or destruction of property
Improper mobile phone use
Inappropriate or offensive discussions
Code of Conduct - Classroom Etiquette and Expectations:
Arrive on time and ready to learn
Treat teachers, and fellow students with respect and listen attentively
Avoid disruptive behavior, complaints, or talking during class
Avoid negative comments regarding abilities of other dancers
Always do your best and thank your teacher after class
A Code of Conduct Meeting for Level 4+ students will be held at the start of the school year or as needed to reinforce expectations for behavior and studio etiquette.
In the event that behavior does not meet established expectations:
1. A formal warning will be issued to the student.
2. Should the behavior persist, parents will be notified.
3. Continued concerns will necessitate a meeting involving parents, teachers, and administration.
4. If the matter remains unresolved, the student may be reassigned to a different class or, if necessary, dismissed from the academy.
The Artistic Director reserves the authority to separate students who do not demonstrate appropriate behavior when placed in the same class
-
Consistent attendance is essential for progress, discipline, and teamwork in dance. Students are expected to arrive on time and be fully prepared for class.
Late Arrivals: Students who arrive more than 15 minutes late may be asked to observe rather than participate, to ensure proper warm-up and prevent injury.
Absences: Frequent absences may affect skill development and class placement. Students missing multiple classes may be required to schedule a make-up session or receive additional guidance from instructors. Excessive absences may result in loss of performance opportunities, reassignment to a different level.
For students in Levels 4B and above, certain classes are required.
For students in Level 3B and below, there are class recommendations.
Commitment: Dance is a collaborative art—consistent participation fosters growth and strengthens the community. Students should make every effort to attend all scheduled classes.
-
At Emerald Ballet Academy, we hold the dedication and commitment of our dancers in the highest regard. To uphold the quality of instruction and artistic unity across the studio, we ask all students to disclose if they are currently training with another ballet school or dance studio. This policy applies not only to performance participation, but to all classes and programs offered at EBA. Students receiving outside instruction will be subject to review and approval by our Artistic Director, Viktoria Titova, to ensure alignment with the Academy’s training philosophy, schedule, and expectations.
-
Proper attire is essential for comfort, safety, and maintaining a professional learning environment at Emerald Ballet Academy. Each level has a designated class uniform to ensure consistency and discipline in training. Students are expected to follow the dress code for all technique, character, and enrichment classes.
For detailed information on required attire, including leotard colors, footwear, and performance wear guidelines, please refer to the Dress Code
-
Students must remain focused on class and rehearsals. Excessive mobile phone use may result in confiscation by staff.
All communication between students, parents, and instructors must occur in person at the studio. Direct communication outside of the studio is not the responsibility of EBA.
Students 14 and older may post dance-related content with instructor approval, ensuring it does not disrupt class or rehearsals. Photos/videos are strictly prohibited in the dressing room to protect privacy.
Violations of social media policies will result in parent notification and required content removal. Repeated offenses will lead to disciplinary action after three warnings.
-
Photos and videos may not be taken during classes, rehearsals, or performances without Artistic Director approval.
To respect student privacy, performances are professionally filmed, and photos will be made available to families.
For social media and promotions, students can opt out of specific marketing photo sessions announced in advance—this does not apply to performances.
This ensures we celebrate student achievements while respecting individual privacy preferences.

5. Studio Guidelines & Safety
Emerald Ballet Academy is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for all dancers. From proper studio etiquette to facility care and health policies, we ensure a space where students can focus on their training. Below, you’ll find important guidelines on pick-up procedures, dress code, injury protocols, and overall studio expectations designed to support a productive and professional atmosphere.
-
Dancers must be picked up promptly after class, rehearsals, or productions. After a 10-minute grace period, families will be charged $1 per minute unless in case of emergency.
Students may wait in the designated waiting area, but EBA staff cannot monitor them once they leave. Parents should confirm the pickup location with their dancer.
If delayed due to traffic or unforeseen circumstances, please notify the studio with an estimated arrival time.
-
Shoes & Dance Shoe Policy: Young dancers must store their shoes in a cubby before class. Street shoes are not allowed on Marley floors—a $25 fine applies after a warning. To keep the studio clean, students must remove dance shoes before using the bathroom, ensuring the highest standards for hygiene and safety.
Pick-up: Children 10 and older may wait independently between classes; younger children must be supervised. See Pick-up Policy for details.
Parent Waiting Area: To support a focused learning environment, parents and guardians must remain in the lobby waiting area during class. Observing from inside the studio is not permitted unless otherwise approved by the instructor or administration.
Lobby Courtesy: Keep voices low, dispose of trash, and tidy up your space to respect dancers and staff.
Facility Respect: EBA rents studio space in Lake Hills—please treat all areas with care and report suspicious behavior to administration.
Peanut-Free Policy: Emerald Ballet Academy is a peanut-free studio.
-
If your child experiences soreness after class, they should consult their teacher to determine whether it’s related to technique or improper application. Pain lasting more than a week should be evaluated by a physician.
If injured, contact malissa@emeraldballetacademy.com or call the studio. Dancers are encouraged to attend class in a modified way or observe and take notes with physician approval. Observing students must remain in their assigned studio and avoid disrupting class by moving between spaces.
6. Enrollment & Participation Contracts
Emerald Ballet Academy uses a variety of contracts to support our students and programs. All enrolled students are required to complete the Standard Enrollment Contract, which outlines key policies, class requirements, and expectations for participation at EBA.
In addition to the standard contract, families may be asked to sign specialized agreements for additional opportunities. These may include, but are not limited to, performance participation, private instruction, competitions or other EBA-affiliated events and offerings. These contracts are issued as needed and ensure that all parties are aligned on commitments, logistics, and studio policies specific to those activities.
